We looked at other artist video's for inspiration for ours and to give some ideas on other videos that our out there on the market. We looked at Rihanna although she isn't a typical grime artist she is categorized under hip-hop, pop, r'n'b. The video we focused on was her most recent video which is a dance track and dance beats are used in grime music. The video is called we found love and is directed by Melina Matsouka. The video includes many grime genre characteristics such as the high rise buildings which feature in many grime videos to represent where the artist's came from. It also includes a narrative based story which is typical of grime videos and shows a love story which is what most grime songs are based on. It includes drugs and smoking and shows the main characters to be under the influence, the reference to drugs and alcohol is used in many grime lyrics and is present in grime videos.
The part of the video we wanted to include in our video was when all the people are raving and dancing in the field. We didn't want to use the mise-en-scene as a field but we thought we could use the idea of the people raving but in a club rather than a field. We decided to use a club or bar because thats where our target audience would most likely be at the weekend and grime music may be playing there.
The image of Rihanna on the side shows the sort of costume we would want to be wearing in our music video but less sexy and racy and more crazy and random. Rihanna is a huge inspiration for our video especially her costumes and outfits as they are very different and wild which is what we want to achieve in our outfits in our video.
