Hype Williams- Music Video Director

Harold Hype Williams known as 'HYPE'  popular American music director has earned a good reputation through well known artists such as The Notorious BIG, Jay-Z, Kayne West, Christina Aguilera, 2Pac e.t.c. His carrer started when he directed his first music video in 1991 and since then his caarer has exceeded since being nominated for many awards, and become well known for placing his shots in regular widescreen radio with a second shot is split up and placed in the upper and lower bars of the screen as well as  fish eye lens shown in Busta Rhymes 'Gimme some more' and 'The Rain' by Missy elliot. He also developed his techniques in 2003 using the artists boy from the upperpart of the body and a coloured backgroud with different coloured lighting e.g. Gold Digger and ' Video Phone'.

These are  prime example of use fish-eye camera by distorted the camera view around the central foucus which he used in most of his videos till 2003 where he began to realise that he could develop more techniques to his music videos  and this technique was not creating a high level of production activity as a music video director.

Hype Williams also has another signature style which I have noticed through analysing his music videos, involvng placing hots in a regular widescreen ratio while a second shot is split and placed in upper and lower bars for example this is used in the videos ' so sick' 2006 Neyo 'check on it' Beyonce 'Snap yo fingers' Lil Jon and ' Wanna love you girl' Robin thickle as well as many others

Since 2003 when he stoped using the fish eye technique he began to use another signature syele combinding a center camera focus on the artist or actors body and a solid background colour to give a sense of illumincation and show the main attention on the artist this technique has been used on many of his videos  during that time e.g. 'Video Phone' Beyonce & ' Breathe' Blu Cantrell E.t.c

I have now decided after researching the known similarites that run through Hype Williams videos I am going to use to analyse was his his beyonce video ' Check on  it'.

 As Hype Williams tends to use the genre of RnB and use Urban artists it come to no suprise that he would direct world wide star Beyonnce Knowles video.
